July 6 – 11
October 8 – 13
@ Agora Yoga Studio
This course is a Level 1 of 2 to complete a basic beginner Thai yoga massage course following the tradition of Asokananda and the Sunshine Network. It is not required to have previous Thai massage or other form of bodywork training.
This course is an introduction to a unique bodywork modality and a deeper experience of it’s main principles – loving-kindness and compassionate touch – from where we must begin our Thai massage journey. Thai yoga massage is an ancient bodywork practice that stems from yoga of India and Buddhism. Yet more importantly, it is a magical journey of transformation. In this practice, we use meditation, presence and intuitive listening to encourage self-healing, for both the receiver and the giver.
No previous experience in bodywork or yoga is necessary. Thai massage can be used as a method to explore ourselves more deeply through the use of touch and connection with others.
Rooted in traditional Thai massage theory, we will work with static and dynamic techniques, passive stretching and acupressure, and learn the energetic anatomy used in this tradition. We will also draw on elements of fascial release therapy, oesteopathy and shamanic approaches to healing and working wtih the elements.
After this course, you will have:
- a 1.5 hour massage sequence to practice on healthy friends and family.
- a print manual to support you in continuing the practice at home.
- developed skills that you can bring into your daily life.
- explored compassionate touch, sensitivity, intuitive listening, and letting go of tension.
- explored a deeper connection to yourself and others.
